Promosport

Promosport is Tunisia's genuine, state-owned sports-betting and lottery monopoly, established in 1984 under Law n.63 of 6 August 1984, which carved out a specific exception to the general gambling ban imposed by Decree-Law No. 74-20 of 1974 - independently confirmed. Regulated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the company was legally renamed 'Societe Tunisienne des Jeux' by a 2019 government decree, expanding its remit to sports betting and games of chance, though it continues to trade under the Promosport brand on its own official government site. It is the sole legal provider of sports prediction games for Tunisian citizens, alongside the National Lottery (Loterie Nationale Tunisienne), while land-based casinos remain restricted to foreign passport holders only. As a monopoly facing no domestic competition, Promosport has no need to run a competitive first-deposit welcome bonus - this reflects its market structure, not a weakness. We report the broader regulatory context honestly: a 25% withholding tax applies to all legal gambling winnings, and the framework notably lacks mandatory deposit limits or reality-check requirements for player protection, a genuine gap worth knowing. Significantly, a draft law submitted 19 January 2026 proposes criminalizing unlicensed online gambling with prison sentences of 1-5 years and fines up to 500,000 TND, alongside mandated ISP and payment-provider blocks against offshore operators - representing a major enforcement shift from Tunisia's previous grey-market tolerance. The minimum gambling age is 18, unified across all verticals, and legal transactions occur in Tunisian Dinar.
